An iconic dining table designed by Ettore Sottsass and manufactured by Poltronova, Italy 1965. This rare and original Loto table has a big round base made of polished marble that’s smooth around the edges. Then there’s a middle part made of dark blackened metal. The top is a large round marble tabletop. The top part got a newly polished, with only a few small signs of use still visible. Sottsass thought of this table in December 1964. The way it’s designed shows his special touch. The round marble base and the dark metal part go together really well, making the table look playful and interesting and show very clearly where his mind already was before his breaking through designs in the Memphis period.

Ettore Sottsass (1917–2007) was an acclaimed Italian architect and designer, known as the “godfather of Italian design.” Born in Austria and raised in Milan, he studied architecture in Turin. After enduring World War II in a Yugoslavian concentration camp, he established his design studio in Milan. Sottsass notably collaborated with Olivetti from 1958, crafting iconic designs like the Elea 9003 computer and the striking red Valentine portable typewriter. He aimed to transcend conventional consumer products, pioneering postmodernist design. He later embraced social and historical elements in his work, becoming a leader in the Anti-Design movement. In 1981, he founded the Memphis group, challenging norms with unconventional materials and multifunctional designs. Beyond Memphis, Sottsass remained a trailblazer, constantly pushing boundaries. He also founded Sottsass Associati, focusing on large-scale architectural projects. His influence extended globally, with exhibitions in renowned institutions and numerous awards recognizing his contributions. Ettore Sottsass’s legacy continues to inspire contemporary design, leaving an indelible mark on the world of creativity and innovation.
