Carlo Scarpa model 765 dining chairs Bernini Italy 1977

Fantastic proportioned model 765 chairs designed by Carlo Scarpa and manufactured by Bernini, Italy 1934. Yes that’s right, this design already dates back to 1934. That’s why Carlo Scarpa is one of the best mid-century designers of Italy, he was a visionary and already saw in the 1930s what other people started to see in the 60s and 70s. The chairs were designed for his own home in Venice in 1934 but were later taken into production by Bernini in 1977. These chairs were made of plywood, finished with beautiful grained walnut veneer and have black leather cushions on the seats. The backrest is organically shaped and a nice typical Scarpa detail is the round cut out at the end of the opening in the back rest. The organic shape of the back rest is totally different from the base which is very straight and right angled. But this conflicting shape in the 2 parts creates a very interesting aesthetic. Since the backrest have an unusual shaped opening in the back rest, it creates a less blocking view when you look at the chairs. As well from the front as from the back these chairs are very pleasant to look at. The chairs are marked with the Bernini brand mark and a sticker from the manufacturer. The chairs are in very good original condition and  show a gentle patina from age and usage but it only adds character to them and is not disturbing at all. They are priced and sold in a set of 4.
