Beautiful and iconic ‘Costela’ lounge chairs designed by Carlo Hauner and Martin Eisler and manufactured by Forma, Italy 1960. This is the Brazilian version of the Costela chairs, manufactured by Forma Moveis. These so called Costela lounge chairs have solid hardwood Mahogany ribbed structure supported by a black painted tubular metal frame, all in original condition. However the chairs are in a fantastic and original condition, the woodwork has been touched up and the seats have been newly upholstered in a nice black and white flat bouclé. Besides the visually appealing design from every angle, they are also super comfortable. Priced and sold in a set of 2.
The Costela chair was an important design for the Brazilian mid century modern movement in the 1950s. It became so popular that even outside Brazil there was a lot of request for it. So they decided to also produce this chair in Europe which was cheaper than shipping the chairs to Europe. The European version is slightly different sas it was made of veneered plywood where the Brazilian version was made of several types of solid hardwood. This pair is in stunning condition and looks great with a white woven fabric selected by us.
