Brutalist stone mix coffee table The Netherlands 1960

Brutalist stone resin mix coffee table made in The Netherlands in 1960. This table is stone cast and has a circular motive on the top. The design reminds of the works by Ado Chale. Although the designer or manufacturer of these tables remain unknown, you can see the quality and with how much eye for details this table was made. Made of very dark brown mixed stone mixed with resin which is made in a mould. This gives the look of real stone but with the benefit of the fact that it’s easy to handle. The table consists of a large round thick top with a three-legged base. The legs have a chunky arch-shaped appearance. The whole table has a really nice texture and plays with light beautifully. The top reminds a bit of the rings of a tree. In very good original condition.

Ado Chale is a Belgian artist and designer best known for his exquisite mosaic inlays. Pieces of wood, minerals, or bone are sliced, arranged, and coated with resin to form the opulent surfaces. His furniture and domestic objects reference the natural world not only through the use of precious stones, metals, and organic materials, but also through the textures, patterns, and forms they express.
