Very rare pair of ‘Arco’ lounge chairs designed by Andre Vandenbeuck and manufactured by Arflex, Italy 1955. These elegant and stylish shaped chairs have a black painted tubular metal frame and have been reupholstered in a very nice grey bouclé which matches perfectly with the period these chairs were designed in. The chairs are very typical for the second half of the 1950s where designers as Marco Zanuso and Erberto Carboni were also designing for Arflex and giving the brand an amazing boost in their populatiry. These chairs were for some reason less popular and that makes them very hard to find and more interesting nowadays for a mid-century design lover or collector. The elegantly shaped metal frames are complimenting the organic back rest which provides comfort and body to the design. Creating a less minimal but more substantial appearance. The original black painted frames have a nice patina with minor paint losses, but it matches the chairs age and character. The seats and backrests are newly upholstered with new foam and look fantastic again. The chairs look fantastic in a pair, and they are sold and price in a set of 2 only.
