Rare so called ‘Bonanza’ sofa designed by Afra e Tobia Scarpa and manufactured by B&B Italia, Italy 1969. This sofa is stripped down to the bare minimum, the furniture clashes with the 70s style and deviates from bold and tropical designs, having a minimalist aesthetic with simple lines and single-color covering. Designed for C&B Italia later B&B Italia this series is part of the B&B Italia Lounge collection showing the duo’s collaboration with essential names in the design world. The Bonanza lounge series, their second project for the brand, follows the Coronado system and coincides with their well-known Soriana sofa. Using polyurethane foam technology, introduced by German professor Otto Bayer in 1937, the sofa is highly supportive, durable, and flexible. This material becomes integral to the Bonanza lounge series, ensuring elasticity in the upholstery. The wrinkling in the black leather adds an extra dimension do the design.
Dacron a quality design material wraps the furniture adding a spongy layer between the foam and fabric for increased longevity and reduced stretching. The series is a minimalist approach to interior design, eliminating superfluous elements. The structure features a leather surface with a polyurethane base, complemented by an iron profile in the leather. Cushions and backrests are assembled with simple buttons, contributing to the series’ comfortable, formal, elegant, and simple design. Every element in the Bonanza lounge series serves a purpose, challenging the decorative norms of the 70s. Afra and Tobia Scarpa aimed to create something distinct for B&B Italia, achieving this through the use of neutral colors and sophisticated materials. In fantastic original condition.
