Iconic set of 8 so called ‘Monk’ dining chairs designed by Afra e Tobia Scarpa and manufactured by Molteni, Italy 1974. This is for a set of 8 chairs with solid walnut wooden frames and beautiful patinated natural canvas seats. The beautiful thick canvas seats match perfectly with the strong walnut wooden cross angled legs. This way of construction the chairs makes them look light-weight, and also because of their flat shape, but they are very well constructed because of this and heavy, quality wise. The seats are fixed to the frames with black countersunk screws, which appears to be an intentionally thought way to fix the chair and make it part of the design as well. A simplified and solid design by Italian award-winning designers couple Afra & Tobia Scarpa. The set is in good condition where there is only minor wear and patina to the canvas seats. The wooden frames are in excellent condition. Hard to find in this combination of walnut and thick canvas. Priced and sold in a set of 8.
