Unique extendable Artona dining table designed by Afra e Tobia Scarpa manufactured by Maxalto in Italy in 1975.It’s crafted from Italian walnut, showcasing its gorgeous grain and rich wood tone. It features leather pull straps and brass details on the feet, allowing you to easily transform it from a square to a rectangular table within seconds. The ‘Artona’ line, crafted by the Scarpa duo, holds historical significance as it marked the beginning of Maxalto, a specialized branch of B&B Italia. Maxalto, founded in 1975, was dedicated to crafting artisanal, predominantly wooden furniture. The ‘Artona’ series was their first project for Maxalto and also served as a counterpoint to the prevailing trend of using plastics in furniture design during the postwar era.

The brand’s research into form looks to the past, with a revisitation of classical styles. Afra and Tobia Scarpa were its first interpreters, designing a series of wooden furniture items through the use of rare, ancient production processes typical of cabinet and lute making. The result was extremely striking in its sculptural effect, as epitomised by the Africa chair (Artona collection) and the New Harmony collection.
